- I completed my BA (Hons) in Geology at Oxford University (1975) and PhD at the University of Manchester (1980). After postdoctoral positions at Arizona State University (1978-81) and the Research School of Earth Sciences, (RSES) the Australian National University (1981-86), I worked at CRA Advanced Technical Development (1986-7) and then joined the new Bayerisches Geoinstitut, University of Bayreuth (1987-94). I returned to RSES at ANU in 1994, becoming Professor (2004) and Distinguished Professor (2012-2021). Currently, I am a Research Professor (0.2 FTE) at the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment, Monash University (2021-present).
